Operation: Christmas Child [2019]

Christmas traditions. Some of us have more than others. One tradition we practice is the packing of shoe boxes for Operation: Christmas Child, an outreach of Samaritan's Purse. In the years that our family has participated, some of our boxes have been placed into the arms of thankful children living in Mexico.

To us, it is a small thing to pack a box, and bring it back to the church to be sent out. To the child that receives a blessed package, it means a great deal more. Picking up two boxes (one for a girl, the other, for a boy), we shop and decide — as a family — what we buy.

Operation: Christmas Child does more than handing out Christmas boxes to children: it is a way to spread the Gospel; the love of Jesus Christ. Closed countries have been opened.

This year, we were able to do a little more — which was truly a family event — we have been fortunate to help receive and pack the festive boxes into other boxes to be sent out.

Under the watchful eye of Debbie, our lead collector, we were shown the proper ways to construct and tape the box, pack the box, and number the box for delivery.

A simple shoe box. Red. Green. Empty. A blank canvas waiting to be filled for children around the globe. Toys. Hygiene products. Art supplies. The list is endless.
